Alté [pronounced as “uhl-teh”] was coined in the 2010s in West Africa from the root word ALTERNATIVE and is a symbol for non-conformism.
This renaissance of young people creating and reclaiming urban spaces is important especially now with the growing momentum towards democratizing and making them more accessible to everyone.
