5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Alice Yard 24 Erthig Rd, Belmont

Description

Join us for a screening of Cuba in Africa followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker Negash Abdurahman as we recognise the historic bonds of solidarity between Cuba and Africa in the shared struggle against imperialism and colonialism.

We will also be honoring Trinidadian citizens Chad Joseph & Rishi Samaroo who were extrajudicially killed in our waters by the U.S bombing of their boat on 14 October, 2025. We demand accountability for their murders and reject U.S militarisation in our region!

This is also part of a global historic campaign launched by the Coalition for the Elimination of Imperialism in Africa (CEIA). We would be grateful for donations for Cuba, if you are able and persons can also contribute directly to the CEIA fundraiser.

We recognise the historical power of the arts to inspire popular action. This event aims to mobilise our people to contribute materially to the Cuban people during a time of great need, as they have historically done for us in the Caribbean, for Africa, and many people around the world. We stand in solidarity with the Cuban people in their defence of their historic revolution. As Caribbean people who recognise the hard wuk of our ancestors to defeat colonialism, we know it is our duty to defend their historic advances against encroaching imperial power today. We also recognise that this struggle is connected across national borders, oceans, and continents. As our former colonisers work together to uphold and advance the systems of power and control established during their rule, we the people of the region and the world must work together to counter their power, and support our Caribbean and Pan-African family in Cuba as they defend their socialist project.
