Description
CLIMATE CHANGE IS OLE MAS: Exhibition Opening & Reception
We have a long tradition of using mas to hold up a mirror to society. Through mas, we question, provoke, satirise and say the things that might otherwise be left unsaid.
Climate Change Is Ole Mas brings that tradition into the environmental and climate justice conversation. Shot on film, edited and curated by award-winning photographer Jason C. Audain, the photo exhibition places traditional Carnival characters (portrayed by members of the Berkeley Carnival Revolution, 2026) and the visual language of protest mas in a mix of natural and built environments, creating a playful but pointed commentary on our relationship with the places, ecosystems and resources that sustain us. Through wit, humour and cultural expression, it invites us to look differently at climate change and ask whether, as a society, we are moving in the right direction.
The exhibition is the final initiative under Today Today, Congotay!, an arts-for-climate-justice project implemented by The Cropper Foundation, with funding from the Open Society Foundations. It celebrates the power of local Carnival arts, particularly protest mas, to engage with and illuminate the issues of our time.
Join us for the opening evening, featuring a reception and insights from The Cropper Foundation, connecting the exhibition’s creative work with perspectives, observations and initiatives emerging from Trinidad and Tobago’s climate adaptation landscape.
