The First Citizens National Poetry Slam is the premier spoken word championship in the region. What started as a humble open mic competition in 2013, hosted at the University of the Southern Caribbean with a cash prize of $1000, has now transformed into a world class showcase featuring the best spoken word artists in Trinidad and Tobago.
Now in its 14th year, the Grand Slam boasts of the largest cash prize of $50,000, made possible by the unwavering support of First Citizens. It is also the closing event of the Bocas Lit Fest, (Discover more at bocaslitfest.com).
Semi-final Round 2 will see 15 poets face off for a chance to advance to the Grand Slam on May 04th where they will meet defending champion Shakira Burton!
